There's no place like home

Well the internship part of my project is over, so now I'm just left to getting any more art done that I want to do and finishing up research. I mentioned previously that I was going to work on illustration. Allow me to expand on that. I actually got asked a few weeks ago if I could illustrate a children's book that this lady was working on. She is planning on self-publishing it, so I'm not expecting a large monetary reward, but I am excited for the experience. The topic of the book (actually series of books) is getting children to eat their vegetables. We're pretty early in the process, so I can't promise that my illustrations will actually be featured or not, but I figured it would be good experience for me to try even though I haven't had any formal education with regards to illustration. I've got done a couple sketches to help me plan out the style and characters. I'm not exactly sure if I should share them with you yet though.

I have been working on some of my own illustrations as well, which I started doing around the time I got asked to do this book project. Here's an example:
Yeah, so this isn't really a finished piece of work, but more of a little something I did in my sketchbook for fun. I like the idea of having the pictures I draw/paint having a story behind them, even if I haven't entirely figured out what the story is. Over the course of my project, I've realized that although I do enjoy painting landscapes and such from time to time, I don't know if I want to be doing that as a full time career. So I'm looking into other possible artistic fields for me to study in college. I bet I'll change my major a couple times at least, to be honest.

As far as how this relates to my research question, I'm sure I'll figure that out eventually. Just kidding. I guess what I'm trying to say is that there isn't just one path for an artist to take, but many. Sure it is possible to just make traditional art and sell it, but it sure as heck isn't easy. Most of the time, artists have to find another job to make a living, art-related or not. Maybe I'll end up selling poutine to make a living and doing art on the side. Who knows.
